Your Questions About Yeast Infections

Laura asks…

Does anyone know if yeast infections are associated with MS?

I’ve been having problems for the last 5 years and recently my neurologist found lesions on my brain. Given my medical history, he believes I may have ms. I had a problem with Muscle spacticity (not sure about the spelling) for about 4months and my congnitive thought process has more and more deficits as time goes on. I also have a lot of back and neck pain along with numbness and tingling in my arms in legs. On top of all this, I have had numerous yeast infections.

admin answers:

Yes it could very well be. Here is an article published in November 2008, titled “Is Yeast Infection the Missing Link in Multiple Sclerosis”

Good luck, don’t wait for a singular doctor to help you, keep digging and get opinions, as well as doing your own research. We have to be our own advocate with our health. Don’t give up till you get a satisfactory diagnosis and treatment. All the best!!

John asks…

Anything that can help yeast infections?

Other than going to the doctors, does anyone know any household remedies, or anything that helps yeast infections?

admin answers:

Signs of yeast infections:
White, cottage cheese-like discharge
Swelling and pain around the vulva
Intense itching
Monistat over-the-counter

Signs of bacterial vaginosis:
A white, gray or yellowish vaginal discharge

Itching or burning
Slight redness and swelling of the vagina or vulva
See a doctor

I’ve never had any luck with smearing plain yogurt on a pad, tea tree oil or garlic.

Consider going on a yeast-free diet, no sugar (as sugar feeds yeast), no alcohol – so no cakes, candy, sweets, etc.

*Take Lots of acidophilus/probiotics or eat Unsweetened Yogurt
*Avoid tight jeans and other tight pants
*Wear cotton underwear during the day, no thongs
*Wear no underwear to bed

Here’s some things to try if it’s a topical yeast infection. I’ve tired the first two and know they work:

1. Put a tsp of apple cider vinegar in a 6-8 ounce glass of water and drink it 2-3 times a day.

2. Mix a tsp of Hydrogen Peroxide in a cup of water and pour over the area 2-4 times a day.

3. Fill a bathtub with just enough warm, not hot, water to create a sitz bath (enough water to cover your groin and just up to your belly). Add 2 cups of raw apple cider vinegar and sit in the bath with your knees folded toward your body (not stretched out flat). You can stay in this bath mixture for 15 minutes. Gently pat dry and make sure you are very dry before putting any clothes on. Wear only cotton underpants, preferably washed in natural unscented detergent.

James asks…

Is there something to give cats to help them from getting yeast infections in her ears?

My cat tends to be very prone to yeast infections in her ears. All the vet told me was to keep cleaning her ears out but I just wondered (actually after seeing a question over in the Dog section) if there was something I could feed/give to her that would help prevent her from getting them?

admin answers:

Feeding, probably not, but yes there is something very easy to do.

Ours was prone to it too, and he’d get a huge buildup of waxy stuff as well. I started using a swab of 50/50 diluted vinegar (in water) to wipe out his ears once a week. I used a wadded kleenex for it, and made sure to get down as far as my finger and the kleenex would allow. This changed the acidity in the ear enough to stop the infections. Once a week is fine, or you can do it twice a week, but definately not every day.

Michael asks…

Why do i keep getting recurring yeast infections? what can i do about it?

For the past 4 months i have been getting yeast infections. i get them at least once a month. I’ve cut down on sugar, started taken probiotic supplements and started eating yogurt and garlic often. still no help. every month right before my period i get the infection. i dont know what’s causing this problem and how to get rid of it permanently. please help.

admin answers:

It’s hormone changes that likely bring on the yeast, don’t ask me why but it happens. Try cranberry juice if it’s in your bladder. If it still persists, a CandidaGone cleanse or yeast cleanse kit might help you, follow the directions and eat the right foods. Cleanses usually available at health food stores, or those that sell those type of products. Candida is basically related to yeast, so that cleanse would kill yeast too.

Hope this helps.

Why Does Eating McDonalds Cheeseburgers Always Give Me Yeast Infections?

I’ve tested this theory and proven it true. If I eat a lot of McDonalds (at least 4 times a week) I’ll have constant, chronic yeast infections. Once I cut down on my McDonalds intake they go away.

This isn’t psychological. What gives? Anyone else notice this?
Last time I ate McDonalds was in February 2009. So far no more infections. Weird.

Oh and Double Quarter Pounders with cheese break me out in hives.

admin answers:

McDonalds is really crappy for you, not sure why yeast infections but your body’s telling you it DOESN’T LIKE IT. :)
